Introduction

...

The height/size of a man-made obstacle can change during its lifecycle - from planning, through construction, to completion and, in time, demolition. This process can sometimes be quite lengthy and as a result, some obstacles may need to be published when they do not exist yet (i.e. planned), but which will do at a defined point in time or at least the protection area for them must be made available to allow for their construction. Consequently, information can be made available when the obstacle is still in planning or construction status. It should be noted that the position and height of an obstacle may be different during the planning/construction and when completed (e.g. removal of the crane, addition of antennas on top).

In AIXM, this is modelled with the constructionStatus attribute of the VerticalStructurePart, which means that the construction status can be coded separately for obstacles composed of multiple volumes. For example, a building with an antenna on top, might have a separate completion status for the building (which could be 'COMPLETED') and the antenna (which could be 'IN_CONSTRUCTION').

ICAO provisions do not require information about the status of an obstacle, but EUROCAE ED-98C/RTCA DO-276C defines an attribute 'Status' that provides the following indications: “planned”, “under constructions” or “completed”.

...

Name(Proposed) Explanation
1'IN_CONSTRUCTION'Works started on erection of the object expected to penetrate the obstacle collection surface in this location
2'COMPLETED'Works on erection of the object penetrating the obstacle collection surface in this location are completed and the construction equipment removed
3'DEMOLITION _PLANNED'Plans approved for demolition of the object penetrating the obstacle collection surface in this location
4'IN_DEMOLITION'Works started on demolition of the object penetrating the obstacle collection surface in this location
5'OTHER:PLANNED'Plans approved for the construction of the object at the given location. This status is not considered in performance calculation application.
6'OTHER'Any other status not listed above in following format 'OTHER:...STATUS...'
