titleOpen question Navaid components
In case of navaidequipment used by another navaid, e.g. a marker used for an ILS, has the marker to be coded as Navaid as well?

Navaid Component

This information is not directly required by PANS-AIM to be provided (except  for the marker position). However, for the sake of completness in the following the usage of the NavaidComponent class shall be elaborated. However, as this class is used to describe navaid collocations (e.g. VOR/DME) and the type of marker used for an ILS it shall be elaborated in the following.

In case the Navaid is composed of more than one NavaidEquipment the NavaidComponent class is used.

...

The Navaid.name is used for the long name given to the composite navaid.

Magnetic Variation

PANS-AIM requires the magnetic variation for all radio naviagtion aids without limitation to a particular type of navaid. However, PANS-AIM Appendix 1 requires the magnetic variation only for ILS and NDB.

in AIXM 5 the magnetic variation is coded on the Navaid class. Several attributes are used.

The magneticVariation attribute is used to provide the angular value of the magnetic variation. The value of an angle (at a given point) between the direction of Magnetic North and the direction of Geographical North. The value range allowed by AIXM is between -180 and 180 degrees. A positive value indicates that Magnetic North is East of Geographical North. A negative value indicates that Magnetic North is West of Geographical North.

The dateMagneticVariation is the year on which an associated magnetic variation was measured.

In addition, PANS-AIM requires (for ILS and NDB) the accuracy to be provided. In AIXM the magneticVariationAccuracy attribute is used for that purpose.
