This page contains the mapping for the following data items as defined in PANS-AIM, chapter 5.3.3.1.1

c) Route (identifier prefix, flight rules, designator);

These properties, which are considered as minimum AIP data set for Routec) Route, are mapped to the following main AIXM 5 feature:

PANS-AIMDescription (PANS-AIM)AIXM 5Remarks

Designator prefix²

The prefix of the route designator as specified in Note 1)

Note 1): U) Upper, K) Helicopter, S) Supersonic, T) Tacan, Other

Route.designatorPrefix

PANS-AIM naming issue:

2 In PANS-AIM chapter 5.3.3.1.1 c) the term "identifier prefix" is used, whereas Appendix 1 (Aeronautical Data Catalogue) applies the term "Designator prefix".

DesignatorDesignators for ATS routes according to Annex 11 Appendix 1 (or Appendix 3 for standard departure and arrival routes)

Route.designatorSecondLetter

Route.designatorNumber

Route.multipleIdentifier

RouteSegment.designatorSuffix

The RouteSegment.designatorSuffix has been added, as in some countries a route may have a different designator suffix for particular route segments.

Flight rulesInformation on the flight rules that apply on the route (IFR / VFR)Route.flightRule

Acc. to PANS-AIM only relevant for "Other routes".

It is probably assumed that ATS routes are for IFR and "other routes" include both IFR and VFR routes.

ATS Routes

Other Route

Route.type value equal-to 'ATS'

Route.type value equal-to 'OTHER'

Note

PANS-AIM chapter 5.3.3.1.1 does not distinguish between ATS Route and Other Route.  PANS-AIM Appendix 1 (Aeronautical Data Catalogue) distinguishes between ATS Route and Other Route as subject. Also in PANS-AIM Appendix 1 ENR 3 this distinction is made. Hence a mapping is provided.

For the composition of the route designator, PANS-AIMS requires a property for the route designator prefix and another one for the remaining elements of a complete route designator.

In contrast, AIXM 5.1.(1) provides four different attributes to compose the complete route designator.

Example:

  • designatorPrefix equal-to 'U', to indicate that the route or portion thereof is established in the upper airspace;
  • designatorSecondLetter equal-to 'L'
  • designatorNumber equal-to '601'
  • multipleIdentifier equal-to 'F', to indicate that on the route or portion thereof advisory service only is provided

PANS-AIM issue

1 Contrary to the PANS-AIM Appendix 1 (Aeronautical Data Catalogue), PANS-AIM chapter 5.3.3.1.1 does not distinguish between ATS-Route and Other Route.
