Event summary

Introduction

The Event class has a summary property, which can have XHTML content, which enables formatted text and even embedded graphics or maps. The following usage scenarios are envisaged for this property:

  • Pre-Flight Bulletin (PIB) entry - a textual/formatted description of the Event could be used as entry in a digitally enhanced PIB. This can be applied for Events that are also notified with a NOTAM message, for more complex Events that are promulgated through an AIP SUP and also for Events that are coded just digitally, for which only a simplified NOTAM is issued. This could open the path for the NOTAM system revision, allow certain events to be coded only digitally, without having to be issued as NOTAM. If necessary, such events could still be included in preflight briefings or other reports intended for operational staff, using the "summary" property to provide the text.
  • Advanced Event notification - for a complex Event that is planned to take place at some date in the future, the summary attribute can provide an advanced description of the Event. This is useful for Events that are not fully defined, such as a large military training for which not all the details are known. The summary could be useful for advanced planning, until a complete digital coding of the Event is provided.
