Service (en-route)

The diagram below gives an overview of the en-route services (such as ATC, FIS, SAR, etc.) modelled in AIXM 5. Please note that this is not a complete "AIXM services concept" diagram, it is a partial diagram that shows just some of categories of services.

The abstract feature Service has several specialised features. For the AIP data set only 3 of them are relevant.

An AirTrafficControlService may control a clientHolding, a clientAirspace, a clientRoute and also control the airspace of a clientAirport.

An InformationService may concern a clientAirport, a clientAirspace, a clientHolding and/or a clientRoute.

A SearchRescueService may service a a clientAirspace and/or a clientRoute.

The Service has a serviceProvider. The information about the service provider is coded using the Unit class an its properties.

For the AIP data set mainly the Unit.name is relevant.

For the Service more details may be required such as call sign details and radio frequencies. The diagram below shows the main AIXM 5 features that may be used to code that information:

The Service may be identified by one or more CallSignDetail. The CallSignDetail is defined by a callSign and the language in which the service is provided.

The Service may also have one or more RadioCommunicationChannel, which will provide the details about the frequencies the service is provided on.

For more details see topic Radio Communication Channel.

The hours of operation may be relevant as well. in this regard AIXM 5 provides the possibility to code hours of operation for the Unit that is providing the service, the Service itself and also the RadioCommunicationChannel (frequency) the service is provided on.

For which feature the actual hours of operation are applicable and will be coded depends on the finally on the needs of the data provider. Although, PANS-AIM defines that hours of operation of the provided service shall be provided, for a data provider rather the opening hours of the unit or even when a particular frequency is operative may be relevant.
