Explaining the split between observation and forecast
The aerodrome observation and forecast services are kept separate. There is some argument that they could be merged into one service. However, it was felt that there are good reasons to keep them separate for now e.g.
- some service consumers are only interested in one or the other;
- users are used to have two different messages, one for the observation and one for the forecast.
However, a METAR, has a forecast part in covering the next two hours.
Broker service
Some discussion has taken place in the MET3SG about the need for a centralised function to allow providers of aeronautical meteorological services to easily discover and consume information produced by other service providers. This broker could:
- support the flight briefing function;
- collect access information to the sources of information services; and
- provide a pub/sub functionality to the information in a single location.
At the moment there is no service definition work planned for this.
